Hildegard Katharina Firnhaber, 86, passed away peacefully, Thursday, October 20, 2022, at her home in the company of her son, Thomas Firnhaber. Hildegard was born October 21, 1935, in Heide, Germany, the daughter of the late Ernst and Frieda (Jans) Reimers.
As a young woman, Hildegard worked as a cook for the German Ambassador to Denmark. After emigrating to Canada, Hildegard worked as a nurse’s aide in a hospital. She met and married her late husband, Hans Firnhaber, in 1957, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, eventually moving to Riverside, California in 1962. Hildegard enjoyed sharing her German heritage of “Gemütlichkeit”, hosting other German friends for dinners and events at her home, which led her and Hans to create the German-American Club of Riverside. A pet lover, Hildegard was also an active supporter of the Humane Society.
Hildegard worked throughout most of her adult life, including Archway Bakery, H&R Block, and as a bookkeeper for Louis Massoud and Associates.
Hildegard loved to travel and visited Brazil (Amazon), New Zealand, Australia, Egypt, India, Germany, Hawaii, and Alaska. She also loved camping and hiking with her family and friends in the San Jacinto mountains and the High Sierras of Northern California.
Hildegard leaves her son, Thomas Firnhaber and daughter-in-law Christina Firnhaber, of Dripping Springs, TX; a sister, Ruth Wacker, of Riverside, CA, brother; a brother, Ernst Reimers, of Lübeck, Germany; her sisters-in-law, Barbara Reimers, Lübeck, Germany and Heidi Firnhaber, of Hagelberg, Germany; and Alice Reimers, of Lübeck, Germany; nephews Jens Wacker and Michael Edwards, of West Hills, CA; Roland Wacker, of Redwood City, CA; Charles Lindorf, of Kiel, Germany, Volker Firnhaber and Achim Firnhaber, of Hagelberg Germany; nieces, Bianca (Reimers) Tiedemann, Christina (Reimers) Krause, and Dagmar Reimers, all of Lübeck, Germany. Besides her parents, Hildegard is preceded in death by her husband, Hans Firnhaber; her brother, Hans Reimers, Lübeck, Germany; her brothers-in-law, Hugo Firnhaber of Hagelberg, Germany, and Lothar Wacker, of Riverside, California; and her niece, Heidi Loeschmann of Kiel, Germany.
