Jack Larsen Reid, our beloved patriarch, finished his mortal work on September 26, 2026. In the days before his passing he was surrounded constantly by loving family members. He was a loving father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many. He was devoted to his family and to his Heavenly Father.
Jack was born on July 14, 1932 the youngest child of Joseph and Amy Reid in Salt Lake City, Utah.
When Jack was thirteen, his father died suddenly from a heart attack. He lovingly cared for his widowed mother until her passing.
He served honorably in the US Air Force and was a tail gunner on both the B36 and B47 bombers. He joined the Riverside County Sheriffs Department becoming a detective and finally retiring as Captain after 30 years of service.
Jack was passionate about his life. His interests were many and he tried to live his life fully, honorably and with much energy of spirit. Jack lit up the room with his beautiful, engaging smile, encouraging friendships from many walks of life.
He was an avid reader, particularly American, Native American and Asian history. He enjoyed gardening, remodeling his home and woodworking. Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling and was always eager to learn new things. In his 80’s he took up the Japanese martial art form of Kyudo. Jack was often teased that he was born 100 years too late, as he was most happy wearing his cowboy hat while riding his horse, Coogan.
Jack was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was very proud of his Mormon heritage.
Jack leaves a legacy of his beautiful family, hard work, kindness, and dedication to a well-lived life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Amy, siblings, Kent, Phyllis, William and Beverly, son, Scott and granddaughter, Natalie.

A Memorial service will be held at 10am Thursday, October 22nd at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 5900 Grand Ave., Riverside. A dedication of the gravesite and military service will follow at Riverside National Cemetery at 1pm
