James Marion Martin, 77, of Calimesa, Calif., passed away on June 21, 2018. He was born Sept. 13, 1940 in DeLand, Florida. He moved his family to Calif. in 1975 after residing in Ohio and Michigan. In 1997 he married Marilyn Flores and lived in Riverside, Calif. They later moved to Calimesa in 2016.
In Ohio, Jim worked in the tire industry until he moved to California where he owned his own paging business, worked as a manufacturing inspector, and most recently as a real estate sales agent for Tarbell Realtors. While living in Riverside, he was active on issues before the City Council pertaining to Ward 7. From 1999 to his passing, he was a dedicated member of the Riverside Coalition for Police Accountability. He was committed to ensuring fair and equal justice for all and supporting non-violent relationships within the community. Jim was an avid NHRA drag racing enthusiast, enjoyed classic cars and playing a round of golf, was an Ohio State football fan and a talented art ink expressionist.
Jim was preceded in death by his father Slater Martin; mother Myrtle Martin; brother Mack Martin; and Genny Strabic.
He is survived by his loving wife Marilyn, sisters Theresa Stevens, Anna Burkhart and her husband Frank; brothers Royce, John, Charles and his wife Margaret, Jack and his wife Lenore. Jim was blessed with two sons Jimmy and his finance Juanita, and Richard and his wife, Kathleen; and two daughters Mary Wubker and Mindy Gilbert. Jim is also survived by many grandchildren Andrea, Jennifer, Richard Martin Jr., Devan, Darrian, Drew and his wife Heather, Sariah, Chad and his finance Mesha, Rhianna and her finance Daniel, Josh, Elizabeth, Elijah, Dennis, Amber, and J.R. and his wife Betsy; two step children, Adam and Jennifer and her husband Randy; and two step-grandchildren Megan, Andrew; and two great-grandchildren; James Raymond and Uriyah.
A viewing for Family will be held from 4 to 5 p.m., Sunday, July 8 and later for the Public from 5 to 8 p.m. A Burial Service followed by internment will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Monday, July 9. Both will take place at Pierce Brothers-Crestlawn Morturary, 11500 Arlington Ave., in Riverside, (951)689-1441. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to be made to the Lung Cancer Foundation of America.
