Jesse James Goshay known by family and friends as (Man)-(Shay) was born to the late Carrie and Jeff Goshay on October 30, 1930, in Terrel County, Georgia. He is the oldest of eight children. He received his early education in Georgia before moving to Birmingham, Alabama to live with his Uncle Mitchel and Aunt Vinnie in search for a more fulfilling life. He graduated in 1947 from Parker High School in Birmingham, Alabama.
In 1951, Jesse joined the United States Marines and retired in 1981 as a Master Gunny Sergeant. Shay loved and lived a good life. He attended Rosehill Baptist Church in Dawson, GA under the leadership of Rev. R.D. Woodson. He loved God, Family, Friends, his monthly meetings with the fellas and the Marines! In December of 1981 until March 1984, he worked for Academy Life Insurance. Goshay worked for Hughes Aircraft as a Plant Protection Officer from March 1984 until around 1997, in Newport Beach, CA after retiring from the Military. Goshay was also an active member of Canyon Crest Athletic Club for many years. He worked out doing different activities at least three times a week. Something he also enjoyed doing. Shay drove his car up to the age of 93.
Shay is proceeded in death by his (Parents), Jeff and Carrie Goshay, (Daughter) Lillie Davis, (Sister) Daisy Reid, (Brothers) Marvin and Emanuel Goshay. He leaves to mourn his loving (Wife) Melvin a Goshay, (Son) Keith Goshay (Beaumont, CA), (Daughters) Charolett Goshay Smith (North Carolina) and Ebony Frazier (Austin, TX), (Sisters) Melba Gaffney, Jeanne Goshay, Ira Goshay and Irene Goshay, (Five Granddaughters) Adonica Bryant, Valencia Smith, Dawnetta Allen (All of North Carolina), Donyell Collins (Santa Ana, CA) and Mikaela Hewitt (Bullhead, Az), six great-grandchildren, two very special nieces, Cheryl (Rose) Peters and Alfreda Reid was very special to him along with a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and his longtime buddies Joe Celestine and Blaze Howard.
A visitation for Jesse will be held Friday, July 11, 2025 from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Acheson & Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary, 7944 Magnolia Ave, Riverside, CA 92504. A funeral service will occur Friday, July 11, 2025 from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM, 7944 Magnolia Ave, Riverside, CA 92504. A committal service will occur Friday, July 11, 2025 from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside, CA 92518.
