He Graduated Loma Linda University Medical School in 1955.
After practicing medicine in the Los Angeles area he moved to Norco in 1961, and became the first physician to have an office in Norco. He made house calls after hours on nights and weekends. His favorite part of medicine was caring for pregnant women and delivering babies.
He was the founding member of the City Council of Norco in 1964 and served as mayor of Norco.
He later moved his medical office to Corona and continued a busy family practice until 2011 - 50 years in the Corona - Norco area. He served as Chief of the Medical Staff at Corona Regional Medical Center multiple times during his career.
He enjoyed studying theology and completed 3 years of university-level Greek so he could read and translate the New Testament.
The main hobbies he shared with wife Dolores were fine dining and ballroom dancing. He was quoted as saying, "After i quit dancing, everything went to hell!"
He is preceded in death by son John, December 9, 1969.
He is survived by wife Dolores, son Lawrence Koning, MD, two grandsons Jonathan Koning, MD, and Jeffrey Koning, MD, and brother, Conrad Koning, and 5 great grandchildren.
