

Lewis was born in San Bernardino, California on August 23, 1923. He was a Graduate of San Bernardino High School, Class of 1941. He served proudly on the U.S.S. Lexington, he was an Aviation Machinist Mate Second Class. He was a member of Fighting Squadron Three, Utility Squadron Two, and Utility Squadron Ten. He participated in the Battle of Bougainville and the Battle of Salamaua in the Pacific theater.
After the war, Lewis was employed with Kaiser Steel, Fontana. He was a locomotive engineer at the fontana plant. He lived in San Bernardino, Fontana and the community of Big Bear.
Lewis was an avid gardener. He had a passion for fishing and hunting. He spent many summers on the Snake River in Idaho and at his home base of Big Bear Lake in California. He loved his cabin in Big Bear City, and stayed in it until he was 91 years old. Never willing to be a "flatlander" again.
He is survived by his former wife Betty J. Barrett. His children: daughters, Sandra K. Colbrunn and Karen L. Barrett, sons James L., and Craig A. Barrett. He was grandfather to 8 grand-children. Cindy, Donna, and Michael, children of Sandra Colbrunn. Christopher and Kevin, sons of James Barrett. Daniel, son of Karen Barrett. Cameron and Noah, sons of Craig Barrett. His sister Marie Bowers. He was much loved by his Nephew Bill Mairs and his wife Lorraine.
His service will be held March 13, at 11 am at Acheson and Graham Garden of Prayer. 7944 Magnolia Ave., Riverside, California 92504. 951-688-1221
Following his service he will be laid to rest at the Riverside National Cemetery with military honors.
