Margret Hartl Garcia shown her light upon every single soul she touched for 91 years and 21 days. A light, so incredibly bright, that for another 91 years it will continue to shine through the memories and love that she left behind. Born February 3, 1931 to Johanna and Michael Hartl of Munich, Germany, left this Earth to rejoin the love of her life on February 24, 2022. She was at peace and surrounded by the love of her family.
Margret, lovingly referred to as “Oma” by her family and “Gretel” to friends, was the sweetest and kindest soul that we will ever know. As a young woman, amidst World War II in Germany, she met a young, handsome American soldier, Refugio. They both would always remind us that their difference in languages was never an obstacle because they spoke the language of love, and that was all they ever needed. Shortly after, they would marry and welcome their first-born son, Max. Gretel then traveled by herself, with a toddler, halfway across the world to California to be by her husband’s side once again. They were blessed with two more sons, Klaus Peter and Refugio Jr. (Chito). Once their three sons came of age, they opened their home and hearts to foster three additional boys: Dennis, Michael and Larry, completing her family. Her home was always open to whomever needed love, a helping hand and, most of all, a warm meal.
Always an amazing and doting mother, it would not have been thought possible to become an even more incredible Grandma (Oma and Grammy), but she was. From her midnight chocolate milk shakes to her always giving nature, she loved and cared for each of her six granddaughters, one grandson, their spouses and her twelve great-grandchildren, with ALL of her enormous heart.
Gretel was preceded in death by her parents, Johanna and Michael Hartl; her husband Refugio Garcia; three of her sons, Refugio Jr Garcia, Klaus Garcia and his wife Linda, and Dennis Innerarity; her sister Jenny and husband Fritz Guth; her brother Adolf and wife Linda Schmalhofer; her youngest brother Klaus Hartl and her daughter-in-law Susan Garcia.
She is survived by her sons Max Garcia, Larry Campbell and Michael Ford. Her daughter-in-law Terri Garcia. Grandchildren Hayley Ashby, Melissa Sing, Amanda Stockham, Jennifer Dumont, Jamie Cox, Lindsey Denniston and Jeremy Garcia, their spouses and twelve great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews and life-long friends whom counted her as family.
She lived a long and fulfilling life. Leaving an impression upon each person she ever met and leaving our hearts filled with gratitude for having been blessed by such an amazing soul.
