Mariko Muramoto passed on January 5th, 2026. She lived more than a century, reaching 102 years old. Born December 25th, 1923 in Riverside CA to Katsuhei and Kogiku Komura, she enjoyed a childhood among rural dirt roads and rich farmlands. She was educated in Japan with her two brothers, affectionately called Jack and Joe. Sent as young students to be immersed in their language and culture, they stayed for over a decade. After persevering through war, the Komura children (now adults) were able to return to the states. Mariko eventually married Masami Muramoto in 1948. Together they raised two daughters, tended an orchard, and cared for a variety of farm animals. After her husband's passing in 1981, Mariko maintained her independence on her orchard for another 30 years. Her home held memories of numerous family celebrations and the misadventures of curious suburban grandkids. Later on in life she moved in with her eldest daughter, Linda in Orange and was able to retain much of her preferred routine thanks to the loving care of her daughter and granddaughter. When the time came to seek additional support, Lady Marianne staff was able to provide. Mariko was able to celebrate her 100th and beyond among the caring staff and her family. Mariko valued family in a way that went beyond words and she will be deeply missed. She is survived by her two daughters Linda Junko Glaziner, Jean Misako Pitts, a son in law Bobby Pitts, and an honorary daughter, Laura Hosking-DeGuire, as well as four grandchildren Traci Wood, Rach, Matthew, and Andrew Pitts. Her legacy of quiet dignity, unconditional kindness, and humble generosity will be remembered by all who knew her.
