Marlys attended rural Emmet County schools and graduated from Gruver High School. Growing up on her treasured family farm, she loved nothing more than spending her days riding the farm horses and her adored “Paint”.
A handsome man on an Indian motorcycle caught her eye and on January 23, 1959, Marlys was united in marriage to Dave Landmesser. Now the wife of a Navy pilot, she started her family and created a home wherever they were stationed.
Married for over 60 years, they created a family of 6 children, 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Her love of horses, especially Arabian horses, stayed constant throughout her life. Showing Tio and watching her children & her grandchildren show their horses, were some of her proudest moments, second only to the pride that she had in her family.
Every athletic game, concert, award’s ceremony was where you would find her, cheering on her family- whether it was a son, daughter or grandchild. Trips to the beach, riding horses, water & snow skiing, jet skiing, boating, sailing, and even canoeing, time with Mom or Grami was always filled with fun & music (especially listening to Elvis).
Marlys leaves to cherish her memory: children: Marty (Tim) Brooks; and their children Natalie (John) Fischbeck and Katie Brooks (Ben); Mike Landmesser and his children, Ashleigh Landmesser and Greg Zuelch and their child, Jaxon, Alyssa (Jeff) Nelson and their children, Cambria, Zane, and Bexley, Marcus Landmesser; Monica Pawlowski and her children, Tyler (Cory) Pawlowski and their child, Phoenix, Chelsea and Ryan (Lauren) Pawlowski; Meri (Ray) Royster and their children, Alan (Kristen) Royster and their children, Emma and Dylan, Aaron, Austin, and Alex Royster; Melissa Peak and her children, Marshall, Dustin, Annie and Amanda Peak; Sibling Janet Doolen of Colorado.
Marlys is preceded in death by her husband, Dave; her son, Marcus; her parents, brothers, Omer and Skip Quastad; sisters, Donna Herum and Joan O’Brien.
