You’ve always had a talent for cooking. When I moved out I would call and call u for different recipes and you would sit there and walk me through them from mole to albondigas to enchiladas…etc! You put so much love into every meal you cooked and everyone could tell just by tasting it.

I’m beyond blessed to have had my Tia for the last 17 years. . The best grandma too my baby girl. . My life will for ever be changed without you . I haven’t got to talk to you  in over two weeks. I couldn’t even go a day with out talking to you.  . Missing you more than any thing.

My name is Alex Ursua, but Nieves knew me as Tricia Castaneda. Nieves was like a second mom to me. She welcomed us into her home when my parents were going through things and treated us like we were her own. It saddens my heart to know that my second mom has passed. I know that there’s nothing I could do now to stop from what was happening but if there was I would’ve used all of my power. All of my energy and soul goes out to the family and people who have also lost someone as me. Nothing and no one could prepare ourselves for a devastating loss but the most we can do is be there for each other because I know that’s what Nieves would do if she was in the same position. Helping people who don’t owe her anything with a welcoming smile. She would always tell you as it is even when it hurts, but she knew that’s what you needed to hear. I can still hear her welcoming me and my brothers in for food and drinks every party. That was my second home, second family, my chosen family.
