Paul Jude Hickey

Paul Jude Hickey (60 years) of Corona, CA passed away on January 14, 2023 due to complications of Alzheimer's Dementia. Paul was born in Mariemont, Ohio to Cecile and John E. Hickey, Jr. As a military dependent, Paul lived in several states before California became his permanent home. Paul attended Hemet Elementary School and both Gage and Chemawa Middle Schools in Riverside. Paul graduated from Riverside Polytechnic High School in 1981 was always a proud Poly Bear. Paul worked for twenty-five years as a custodian at Divine Word Seminary and Retreat Center, Riverside. After leaving this position, Paul worked for many years with Ability Counts in both Riverside and Corona. Paul volunteered at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Food Pantry. As a member of St. Catherine of Alexandria Church, Paul happily served as an usher. Paul was an accomplished athlete, who earned countless medals while competing in the Special Olympics, and nearly a hundred trophies, while bowling for the Specialists. As a lifelong Buckeye fan, Paul supported his teams, the Padres, the Lakers, and of course, the Kansas City Chiefs! Paul was fond of 70’s rock and roll music and was known for his award winning dancing. He enjoyed coloring fuzzy posters and sharing them with family and friends. Paul’s vast knowledge of sports and music trivia was a source of family pride. When you think of Paul, remember his joyful laugh, his thoughtful humor, and his caring heart. Paul leaves behind a lasting legacy of love. Paul was predeceased by his father. He is survived by: his mother, Cecile Hickey of Riverside, CA; brother, John Hickey of St. Petersburg, FL (wife, Beth); sisters, Marie LeCourt of Katy, TX (husband, Donald); Monique Sanchez of Riverside, CA (husband, Joseph). Paul will be greatly missed by his nieces and nephews: Philip Hickey, Austin Hickey, Anthony LeCourt, John LeCourt, Dominique Holt, Daniel Sanchez, Kaitlyn Smith; and great niece and nephew, Khaleesi Sanchez and Dillon Hickey. Special thanks to the staff at Peppermint Ridge who cared for Paul with love and compassion. Visitation 4:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, February 22 (Rosary - 6:00 PM) at Acheson and Graham Mortuary 7944 Magnolia Ave., Riverside. Funeral Mass 12:00 PM on Thursday, February 23 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church 5250 Central Ave., Riverside. Interment 2:00 PM at the Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Peppermint Ridge, Corona, CA, which provides residential care for those with intellectual disabilities.
