Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase.
Martin Luther King Jr.
The life of Ramon Muniz Baeza (August 31, 1927- August 4, 2016) can be described as a long journey -- a journey in which his children are grateful that he took the first step full of sacrifice and hard work in search of the American Dream.
Ramon was born in Chihuahua, Mexico in 1927 to his parents Angelita and Jose Baeza. As a child, Ramon dreamed of coming to America in hopes of greater opportunity. At the age of 18, Ramon came to the U.S. as an undocumented immigrant in search of a job. Odessa, Texas was his first home in the U.S. He worked as a cook at a Chinese restaurant/bakery. It was at this bakery that Quica and Corala Muniz, cousins of Ramon introduced our mom, Concepcion to our dad, Ramon. At this time, our mother had two children, Aurora and Manuela, from a previous marriage.
Manuela remembers our dad giving her a sweet bread from the bakery where he was first introduced to our mom. Manuela refused to accept the bread and she cried. Our parents shared many memories of their beginning encounters. Their first encounter was the introduction at the bakery . Their second was when my mom saw my dad sitting under the shade of a tree, and our mom asked Manuela to take an orange to our dad. For many years, our mom asserted that it was an orange and our dad said it was an apple. Either way, this began their life journey together. During their early encounters, our dad would often sing and court our mom with many songs, but one of their songs was "Tu Solo Tu" by Pedro Infante.
Their first daughter was Carmen, born in September of 1953. They were married in 1954. The family of five (5) quickly grew into a family of fourteen (14). Ramon and Concepcion Baeza were blessed with six daughters: Manuela Vega, Aurora Cisneros, Carmen Almeida, Josie Guzman, Linda Stauffer, and Silvia Baeza (deceased). They were also blessed with six sons: Joe Baeza, Ray Baeza, Hector Baeza, Enrique (Rick) Baeza, Jesus (Chuy) Baeza and Marco (Tony) Baeza. Ramon had 22 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
Ramon Muniz Baeza was a hardworking and strong man who pursued the American Dream for both himself and his children. He was a devoted parent who worked hard to provide for his twelve (12) children. Ramon eventually moved his family to LA, where he worked for National Can Company as a Teamster's Union member for 30 years. He lived in San Jacinto for more than 40 years and eventually became a proud U.S. Citizen where he first voted for Bill Clinton. He looked forward to voting for Hillary Clinton.
His children always respected their dad and saw him as a strong provider. He sacrificed much and worked tirelessly to provide a roof, food and clothing. Ramon was selfless in all he gave to his wife and kids.
Losing a parent is one of the most difficult situations a child goes through. Ramon's children and family realize the great fortune they had in their father, Ramon Muniz Baeza. There are no words to express the impact he's had on the lives of his children. It is through the life he lived, his sacrifices, his faith and their mother's faith in God, and his dreams for a better life, that his children have learned to be who they are today, to have strength and courage to never give up, and to look to the Lord to guide them.
His children are grateful for his sacrifices and for all that he did for his family. They are grateful that he took the first step on the long journey. Now he has taken the final step to be with the Lord.
Please join the family to celebrate the life of Ramon Muniz Baeza.
