Reyes Rivera was born on January 6, 1940 in San Gabriel, California to Cecilia Torres and George Rivera. Rey resided for his first five years in San Gabriel, California then moved to Riverside, California. He was one of nine children.
On June 4th, 1966, Rey married Barbara at St. Anthony’s Church in Riverside, Ca. They raised two children, Raymond and Carmen. He was a wonderful husband and an excellent father. Rey and Barbara celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2016 with family at the Mission Inn.
One of his many enjoyments was traveling along with his wife Barbara. They started out when they first married with tent camping, then throughout the years they continued to upgrade camping quarters. Their latest purchase was a motorhome and his tow car which was he truly enjoyed. His many travels included driving up North to the High Sierras, traveling for months around the State and into Canada with his RV club.
Rey was known for his green thumb in gardening. He loved working in his garden, taking care of his sago palms, avocado tree, lemon tree and his plumerias. One of his many passions was to bar-b-que and spend his time with his family.
Rey was employed by California Baptist College for 10 years and then to California School for the Deaf where he worked in building maintenance for 26 years, where he retired from back in 2003. Rey was loved by all.
Rey is survived by his wife, Barbara Rivera, his son Raymond Rivera, daughter Carmen Rivera Garcia along with his grandchildren, Reyes J. Rivera, Anthony Garcia, Aliyah Garcia and Adrian Garcia. He his 2 sisters, Evelyn Sanchez of San Jose and Eleanor Sanchez of Riverside and 2 brothers, Richard Rivera of Arizona and Leonard Rivera of Colton, Ca.
He departed this life and entered into eternal peace on March 16, 2018. He is irreplaceable, loved beyond words and will be missed dearly.
