

Bob was born in Avenel, NJ to Walter William Tomes and Mary Virginia Tomes and had a younger brother, Gary.
After the family moved from New Jersey to Southern California, he eventually graduated from Corona Senior High School, after dropping out his senior year.
He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1964 for a short time before being honorably discharged for medical reasons.
In 1965 he married Marylou Burger whom he had three children with, Laura, Christina and Robert.
He worked part time for Walt gas station on 6th Street in Corona for many years. After which he started working for a paneling company which was the start of his career in the building supplies industry. He worked for several other companies in the same field working his way up to salesman.
Bob eventually started his own company, Tri-County Building Materials. His infectious personality and willingness to help others were the driving factors for his great success as a business owner.
In 1983 he married Cynthia (Cyndi) Kern and once again his personality shown through as he embraced her three daughters, Wendy, Missy and Meredith whom he has always loved as his own. He eventually adopted the youngest, Meredith.
Bob later met his true loves, Snickers and Hope, His two shih tzu’s that always brought him laughter and comfort in good times and bad.
After retirement, Bob and Cyndi spent time travelling and enjoying time with family.
