On this day is another photo of Ruben looking over in the historical documented photos at the once segregated Cypress Street schoolhouse where Mexican children were sent to attend school in the city of Orange. 

He had not been to this location since a child some 70 plus years.  I had invited him as not only my elder to teach me further history of our family but also as my guest since I was a vice president of the orange barrio historical society where the organization calls the school house its official home base. 

Ruben spent over an hour touring the building. Once he got in front of the pictures, he didn't even hesitate one bit on knowing exactly who was in the photos. He didn't have a lapse in memory at all and in fact was able to make corrections in the statements on some of the photos as well as fill in gaps that without his assistance based on his position within the family we would have never known. It was a moment in time that I will cherish as his nephew, as proud  Alonzo & Garcia for the rest of my life. 


This was a memorable day for me as I was the vice president of the orange barrio historical society. The organization was made up of descendants of families who grew up on Cypress Street and it's key purpose was to try to preserve the heritage of the Mexican community of all that once occupied this West sector of old Town Orange where Ruben was born and raised. 

On this day he visited the restored segregated schoolhouse that Chapman University purchased and allowed him to have access to all the photos while touring the building. 

He had not been inside since he was a child.

Fine man. Loved his family. Displayed SACRIFICE.

What a reunion with Grandma, Mom, and Dad. ♥️
