Sylvia was born in Newington, Connecticut to George and Edith Shute. Sylvia was the 5th of 14 children. At a young age the family moved to England where her parents originated from. During the war Sylvia met and married Clifford Stephen Bowman in England. In 1946 Sylvia came to America as a GI war Bride on the Queen Mary with her infant daughter Janet to join her husband. The family resided in Massachusetts where Carol, Steve, and Susan were born. In 1953 Sylvia and Cliff with their children relocated to California where Cindy and David were born. Sylvia later married and lived with her second husband Ted Oylear.
Sylvia worked in the Aerospace industry for over 30 years. She retired from Hughes Aircraft and relocated to Riverside, California. In Sylvia’s leisure time she loved working on her family tree, reading, photography, computer games, and spending time with her family. During her research on the family tree, Sylvia touched base with many family members in different parts of the world. This was very important to her as she wanted to pass the family history on to her children and family.
