I would always see tony out at the ball park, and see him drive up our street and wave to him. My family and i extend our warmest sympathy to his family. May the Lord provide you all with strength to get through this sad situation. Rest in peace

You were my bus driver through elementary school and again in high school. You were the most amazing softball coach that there ever was. I learned everything about playing ball from you. I will never forget you ever. I'm now a school bus driver and i know you will always be there keeping my kids and I safe in my bus which just happens to be #34.

Tony made my high school years a living hell, and he made me run laps until my feet fell off. We practiced six days a week, sometimes in the rain because, winners don't quit. If you were to ask my 15-year-old self what I thought of him I would've told you he was crazy. He pushed us to the brink of abandoning all hope but, out of the three years I played for him, two we went undefeated. I couldn't get over my fear to take a swing at a ball during a game to save my life. I'd hit them to the fence every practice, and be in the dirt diving for a grounder with the rest of my teammates without hesitation. He threw me in the outfield because, I had an arm to get it to the plate. A game? I froze like a statue. I swear 15 years later I can still hear him yelling at me from the third base line. "If you don't hit that damn ball, you're on the bench." I loathed these moments. I'd give him the coldest glare I could muster and walk the inning. He'd tell me after every game "Listen, I believe in you, I know you can hit, you just have to believe it for yourself." He was one of those people who came into your life for a season, if for nothing else just to simply push you beyond the limits you believed you were capable of. He was my high school softball coach for almost the entirety of those years. We didn't always agree but, he made a difference.

Tony was such a kind person.  He was my daughter, Jamey's softball coach.  Tony went out of his way and gave my kids a ride to practice many times.  He will be missed!

When I tried out for softball I caught a pop fly and took my glove to my eye, Tony told me they picked me for the cubs because I kept playing through, even with a swollen eye. When we went to championship playoffs years later, I had a broken ankle and felt like I had let my team down and Tony told me that my team needed me there more than ever, supporting them. Tony taught me that we keep playing through and supporting our team even when all we have to give is ourselves. The cubs and my coaches were there for me during some of the hardest years of my life. I truly wish I could be there to support everyone now. All my love and condolences are with you Christina and all of the Martinez family.
