Travis was born on December 12, 1925, to Travis Henderson Sr. and Catherine Mack. Travis has 3 older siblings Viven, James Vincent, and Louise. He also has 4 younger siblings, Rosa, Arthur, Bobbie, and Gloria. Travis thought the family was very important and did his best to help the family out until his last day. While he was young he was taken to a golf course and was taught how to play. He fell in love with the game and tried to teach everyone he could how to play.
At the age of 16, Travis went into the Army, supporting his country the best way he could. Later Travis married a woman named l'Lana, and they had a child, a boy, his name is Ky D. Henderson. Later the couple agreed that their relationship was not what they wanted so they went their separate ways. Travis moved to California and bought a house for his mother. Still in the military moving from base to base, he met another woman, Nedra P Bryant. Eventually they married on April 5, 1963. On June 23, 1965, they welcomed their first child, a girl Kymberly Angela Henderson, 18 months later they welcomed another child Gregory Allen Henderson, he arrived on February 12, 1967, and then finally another child was welcomed 7 years later on February 15, 1974, David Brian Henderson arrived.
Travis was surpassed by his mother Catherine, Father Travis Sr, Siblings Viven, JV, Louise, and Arthur. Three uncles Lawrence, Luke, and Millard Mack. He leaves behind his wife Nedra of 58 years, his children Ky, Kym (Steve), Greg, and David. He has a total of 9 grandchildren Darrell, Yolan, Charles, Gregory, Richard, Angela, Steven, and Derrick, and a total of 16 great-grandchildren, 3 siblings Rosa, Bobbie, and Gloria, and several nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, and many friends.
Travis was a hard worker and valued education and a dollar. He started with Army, transferred to the Air Force, stationed at Norton Air Force Base until he retired in 1985. Retirement didn't sit too well for him so he went back to work, this time for Westinghouse. While he was still in the Air Force Travis also went to school where he received his Associate and Masters in Industrial Services. After receiving his degrees he taught many nights after work at Riverside City College. As a student, he also played football "Tight End" for the school. In the late 1980s Travis auditioned in downtown Riverside for the movie Vibes starring Cyndi Lauper, and Jeff Goldblum, he got the part, he played the Ambassador to El Salvador. Travis was very out-going, liked to have fun, and did what he could for his family. He also knew the value of money and was often joked about being cheap, but guess what it paid off for him by being cheap. Saved his money well and taught his wife, kids, and grandkids about how to keep your money. Some of us are still learning.
I could go on and on about Travis. he may have left his body in the month of January, but we Celebrate his life in February during Black History Month. Happy Homegoing Travis. We love you, we miss you, but we know we will see you again. Most of us always thought you would live forever and you know what, we are right. His body is leaving, the soul has already left, but we have memories of a man that brought a lot of joy and happiness to those who knew him well. So many memories, funny loving, sad, crazy. You name it we have a story for you. 96 years and 33 days, you definitely deserve a rest. We love you always
Family is a circle of love, not broken by a loss but made stronger by the memories we remember.
