Walter David Kelly Jr.

Walter David Kelly Jr., a beloved and compassionate soul, passed away on December 12, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on April 30, 1934, in New York, New York, Walter was known for his humorous, generous, and faithful nature, endearing him to all who knew him.

Walter spent his early years playing basketball in high school, a testament to his hard-working and kind-hearted spirit. After high school, he served in the Air Force during the Korean War from 1952 to 1956, demonstrating his dedication and bravery. Following his military service, Walter embarked on a diverse and accomplished career. He worked at Kaiser Steele from 1956 to 1960 before joining the Riverside County Sheriff Department, where he served with distinction from 1960 to 1985. Afterward, he continued his commitment to public service with the Orange County Social Services from 1985 to 1990.

Walter was preceded in life by his wife, Pauline Kelly, in 2014. They shared a beautiful marriage that lasted 57 years, marked by mutual love and support.

Beyond his professional achievements, Walter found joy in coaching baseball, sharing his love for the game and mentoring young athletes. His impact on the community extended beyond his career, as he was a cherished resident of Riverside, California.

Walter is survived by his loving family, including his daughters Theresa Nicholson, Kathy Bain, Maureen Neal (Dave Neal), stepdaughter Melody Anderson, as well as his son, Walter Kelly III, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. His legacy of kindness and generosity will forever be remembered and cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Riverside on Thursday, January 8th at 9:00 AM . Interment will take place at Riverside National Cemetery on Thursday, January 8th at 11:15 AM.
