William Lasenous Irvin

Burney Irvin, in Los Angeles, California . He was the third of six

children; Bernadine, Burney, William, Donald, Thelma and Bert. Four have

preceded him in death. He attended Jefferson High School in Los Angeles and graduated in 1953.

After high school he joined the US Navy where he served 20 years and spent the majority of this time on a Submarine. He was the first black

radioman on a submarine in the US Navy. During his active service he was

stationed in New London, CT, Annapolis, MD, Norfolk, VA, Port Juaneme, CA, and San Diego, CA. He and his family also lived in Honolulu, Hawaii for three (3) years.

He retired as a Chief Radioman in 1973.

After retirement from the US Navy he went to work for the LA County Sheriff’s Department and retired after 20 years in 1992.

In the 1980s he became a member of the Prince Hall Masonic Order of Free Masonry and served as Worshipful Master of Angel City Lodge #18. In 1992, he served as Illustrious Potentate of Egyptian Temple #5, Los Angeles.

In 1958 William Lasenous and Pauline Delores were joined in marriage. From this union came three (3) children Shirley (Mickey) Jones, Charles Anthony Irvin, and Dana Lasenous Irvin. Pauline proceeded him in death.

In September, 1989 William L and Lavolia C. joined in union, combining their families with an additional three (3) children; Tyrone Perry (RIP), Lethia Perry Gaston, and Theron Perry.

William and LaVolia enjoyed 25 years of marriage and lived life to the fullest until Billy’s last days. Billy never failed to let everyone know that he loved his wife with all his heart and credits her for the last 20 years of his life.
