William Robert Smith, 81, passed away Sunday morning May 12, 2019 at his home in Riverside, California following a brief illness.
He leaves behind his wife of 53 years Betty (Underwood) Smith; his Daughter Vickie Mountain and her husband Robert; Son Jim Sanchez; Son Rusty Gates and his wife Monica; preceded in death by son Leroy Smith; Eight grandchildren; Eleven great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
He was born in Van Nuys, California the son of Monta Smith and Frances Bailey. He moved to Norco, California with his parents and raised chickens.
He graduated from Corona High School in 1956.
He served in the Marine core for two Years, where he worked as an Electronic technician.
He opened a service station in the 60’s where he was a mechanic. Bill’s Douglas Station was open through the 1960’s and 1970’s.
He joined the Riverside Fire Department in 1965 and retired in 1993 as an Engineer. After Retiring, he enjoyed farming and raising live stock in Norco.
A visitation will be held on June 3rd from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Pierce Brothers Crestlawn mortuary. He will be laid to rest on June 4 at 10:00 AM - 11:00AM at Pierce Brothers Crestlawn mortuary.
