Betty Lou Fields Anderson Cox, “Louie”, sweetly passed away March 10, 2025 at her home in West Jordan, Utah. She was born April 4, 1939, in Tooele, Utah, to James Arthur Fields Jr. and Edith Mary Bryan…..12 minutes after her twin sister, Bonny Lea. No one was expecting her arrival. She has been surprising people ever since.
Betty Lou was born, raised, educated and married in Tooele. Tooele holds all of her key memories. She was shaped and molded there. Her favorite color was purple, she played the drums in the marching band, and she remained a “Tooele Buffalo” at heart.
She married Gayle Ewell Anderson, August 22, 1956. Together they built a life and had six children. Betty Lou was a very good mother. She was a supportive wife and devoted friend. Betty Lou and Gayle later divorced. She married Bob Cox, February 10, 1990. Together they traveled, served and enjoyed life.
Betty Lou had a testimony of Jesus Christ and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She found true joy as she served in it’s different auxiliaries over the years. She and Bob served in the Jordan River Temple for 23 years. They served missions in Nigeria, in the Philippines, and one teaching English at the Utah State Prison.
She would deny it, but Betty Lou was very talented and creative. She was passionate, productive, patriotic, and incredibly hard-working. She was a good and loyal friend. She kept an immaculate home. She was incredibly generous and was happiest when she was serving. She had an amazing sense of humor. She was half sugar (from her mother) and half spice (from her Dad) and had an endless supply of “one-liners”. Her love of music ran deep…and remained with her until her dying day. And her family was her world.
Betty Lou is survived by her children, Ron (Kari) Anderson, Russell (Fern) Anderson, Renee (Nick) Jackson, Ronda (Russell) Bishop, Rayla (Justin) Dee, and Ryan (Angie) Anderson; her sister, Carol Jeanne Harding and brother-in-law, Ron Robinson; 37 grandchildren, and 36 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lionel (Bob) Cox, daughter-in-law, Cheri Anderson, her parents, James Arthur Fields, Jr. and Edith Mary Bryan Fields, all but one of her siblings and most of their spouses, Darlene (Theron) Shields, Shirlee (Berkley) Orr, J.Clair (Ev) Fields, Bonny Lea Robinson, and brother-in-law, Bob Harding.
