Etta G. Worthen Stephens, surrounded by those she loved, left her earthly home and family to be joyfully welcomed by loved ones in heaven. She was born on the 4th of March, 1948, in Panguitch, Utah, to Clara Giles Worthen and S. Lamar Worthen. The youngest of five children, Etta grew up in the close-knit community of Panguitch, where she spent the majority of her childhood. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She graduated from Panguitch High School in 1966 and soon after moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where she attended LDS Business College. After college, she moved to Las Vegas, NV where she met her sweetheart, Daymon Stephens Sr. They were married on the 13th of September, 1969 in Panguitch. Later, their marriage was solemnized in the Saint George, Utah Temple, on the 22nd of January, 1972. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised four children.
Her first career was as a legal secretary, where her attention to detail and professionalism set her apart. Later on, Etta and her husband owned and operated two convenience stores in Springville and Mapleton, where they became beloved members of their community. Her creativity and intelligence led her to develop educational curriculum for the National Energy Foundation, and in her later years she worked in the secretary pool for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where her warmth and dedication were deeply appreciated.
She was a woman of many talents—there was truly nothing she couldn’t do once she set her mind to it. Along with her husband, she served as a cub scout and Webelos leader, while also serving on the district round house committee. She had a passion for ceramics, china painting, tole painting, and porcelain dolls. She taught and ran a ceramics studio in both Salt Lake City and Springville.
Above all, Etta cherished her family. She created lasting holiday traditions that brought generations together and filled her home with love, laughter, and the joy of being together. She often said she loved the sound of children’s laughter — a reflection of her generous heart and the joy she brought to those around her.
Etta is survived by her devoted husband, Daymon Stephens Sr.; her four children: Daymon Stephens Jr. (Christine), John Stephens (Becca), Stephanie Olsen (Daniel), and Wyatt Stephens (Jessica); a Bonus Son Danyon Campbell (Hiroko); 29 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. They will carry her love and legacy forward.
She is preceded in death by her parents, S. Lamar and Clara Giles Worthen; her siblings, Scott, Maurine, Karen, and Jerry; nieces LaRae and Clara; nephews Terry and Martin.
Etta’s life was filled with faith, adventure, creativity, laughter, and love — she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
