Jerry Silver Osguthorpe, 73, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025, in Cottonwood Heights, Utah, after a courageous battle with cancer. A dedicated veterinarian, loving father, adventurer, and friend, Jerry’s life was defined by his determination, unwavering work ethic, and zest for exploring the world around him. He leaves behind a legacy of resilience, compassion, and unforgettable memories for all who knew and loved him.
Born on November 15, 1951, to D.A. and Afton, in Holladay, Utah. Jerry was part of a family and community that valued hard work and close connections. He graduated from Olympus High School, continuing on to study veterinary medicine at Colorado State University.
Jerry’s greatest joy came from his family. He married in 1975 and had four children. Jerry loved to teach and take his children on many adventures. He taught them to ski and mountain bike, and the importance of a good education.
Jerry went on to build a successful career as a practicing veterinarian, serving animals and their families with dedication and expertise for many years. His patients and their human companions always knew they were in caring hands.
Jerry approached every aspect of his life with the same determination and diligence that marked his professional life. But beyond his career, Jerry thrived on adventure. He was a rock climber, tennis enthusiast, golfer, and skier, eagerly seeking out new challenges and the beauty of the natural world. Friends and family recall that Jerry would never turn down an opportunity to rock climb, hit the slopes, or tee off.
He is survived by his longtime companion of 14 years, Tea Taylor; his sons, Jeff Osguthorpe and John Osguthorpe; his daughters, Jennifer Smith (Jared Smith) and Julie Griffiths (Jared Griffiths); and his eight grandchildren (Jillian Griffiths, Jocylynn Smith, Jacob Griffiths, Jentry Griffiths, Jaley Smith, Justin Griffiths, Jayden Smith, and Jayce Smith). Each of them carries forward his legacy of determination and zest for life. He is preceded in death by his parents, D.A. and Afton.
Jerry's life was one of purpose—marked by hard work, impassioned adventure, and deep love for those around him. His memory will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know his generous spirit. While Jerry’s presence is no longer with us, his spirit—undaunted, kind, and adventurous—will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. The family encourages reaching out to a loved one for an adventure in Jerry’s memory.
