Lester Marty Nichols

Lester Marty Nichols passed away surrounded by his family on August 8th, 2026, in Salt Lake City Utah at 55 years old. He was born on May 7th, 1971, in Salt Lake City Utah to Lester Max Nichols and Sherry Thompson. He grew up in Salt Lake City Utah where he met the love of his life and wife Julie Steed (Nichols) in 1989 and they later married in June of 1990 in Murray Utah. Together they had 4 children and created a beautiful loving life. Marty was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to those lucky enough to know him.

As a man of many trades, he worked in many industries including construction as a young man, later becoming an arborist, and in recent years has been manufacturing hunting bows. However, above all of those he was most proud of the family he had created. The love he had for his wife was unlike any other and he loved spending time with her, his children, and his grandchildren whenever he was able to. He would always accept friends of his children as children of his own, so if you needed a place to belong, Marty was the one to have around. He always wanted to help people and would never turn down a family member or friend in need.

Marty is survived by his wife Julie Nichols, his sons Matthew (Aubrie) Nichols, Riley (Tayler) Nichols, and James Nichols, his daughter Markelle (Ryan) Nichols, his father Lester (Penny) Nichols, his 4 grandchildren, and many other family members he loved.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, his uncle Lane Kitt, his Mother Sherry Thompson, and his father-in-law John Steed.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the Huntsman Cancer Institute staff for taking such good care of Marty while he was battling cancer. We give a special thanks to the doctors, and especially the nurses working on floor 4K, the hematology ward that Marty spent weeks on in the hospital.

A visitation will be held on August 15, 2026, at 10:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 981 S Revere Cir 5555 South, Salt Lake City, UT 84121. A funeral service will follow.
