Nina Alene Asay left this mortal existence on Sunday, August 3rd, 2025 surrounded by 5 of her 7 children. Alene was born September 13, 1933 in Portland, Texas to John and Mamie Nelson. She had 3 sisters, Carrie, Viola and Margaret, and two brothers, Charlie and Howard. She moved to the Bremerton, WA area about the age of 7. Alene attended school and graduated from Central Kitsap High School as the valedictorian of the class of 1951. She married Dale Evert Asay in July of 1952. Alene and Dale lived in Bremerton until moving to Kennewick, WA in 1993.
She and Dale loved Jesus Christ and served three missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Philippines and the West Indies. After her family, the church was her second love. She and Dale served many years in the Seattle, WA temple and then in the Columbia River temple.
She loved her family, and they in turn loved her. Alene was preceded in death by her sweetheart Dale, 2 grandsons—Derek Johnson and Isaac Asay—and one great grandson. She is survived by her children Sheryl (Terry) Walker, Devin (Wendy) Asay, Mark (Debby) Asay, Susan (Dave) Jacobson, Patty (Vaughn) Johnson, Dale (Marrianne) Asay, Steven (Marianne) Asay, 28 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by her younger sister Margaret Dahlke. Alene suffered the last few years from dementia and hearing loss, but the staff at Ashford Memory Care treated her wonderfully and she was mostly content there. She will be missed, but what a reunion she and Dad are having!
A funeral service for Alene will be held Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Utah Veterans Cemetery Chapel, 17111 S. Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale, UT 84065. Interment will follow the funeral service at Utah Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 17111 S. Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale, UT 84065.
