Rehon Airmet passed away peacefully on the morning of March 21, 2024, after a long illness. She was born October 19, 1942, in Washington, D.C., the youngest daughter of three children to Max G. Lloyd and Louise B. Koehler. Rehon was a conscientious student, graduating from Bountiful High School in 1960 with honors and earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Utah in 1967. She married Richard G. Wood in 1970. They were later divorced. Rehon left behind two bright and determined sons, Jonathan and Matthew, and a beautiful, talented daughter, Lisan. She adored her children and her grandson, Klaus, speaking of them often and expressing sadness that they lived so far away. She missed them dearly.
Rehon married Steven D. Airmet in 1997 in the Jordan River Temple and enjoyed an instant increase to her beloved family. Gathering loved ones around her and taking pictures to remember special moments was a treasured pastime. Rehon began working at the Utah State Office of Rehabilitation Services in 1991 and retired as Office Assistant in 2004. One of her most memorable experiences was the retirement party held in her honor with dear friends and associates. Rehon was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a testimony of her Savior and His love for her. She relied often on His love to carry her through the pain and disappointments of life, searching for and finding peace in prayer, music and the beauties of God’s creations.
Rehon loved art of all kinds. Music was her first language, and she gracefully expressed her deepest emotions through this outlet, composing her own creative works and arranging endless songs from her favorite musical genres. She was an accomplished pianist and seemed to effortlessly enhance any piece she played with her own uplifting style. She especially enjoyed classical and religious music, recording her own CDs and sharing them with friends and loved ones. Rehon had a beautiful voice and devoted many hours to professional training and perfecting her talents as she participated in choirs and musical productions throughout her teenage and adult years. She was passionate about learning new things and was always focused on self-improvement, even participating in an adult tap-dancing class, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She loved gardening, decorating her home with beautiful things, and attending uplifting drama and dance performances.
Rehon was a gifted organizer and party-planner! She orchestrated family programs in her home when her children were still young and music appreciation classes for her friends later in life. She was meticulous in her program planning and expected perfection from her willing students. Her excellence and refinement will be missed! Rehon’s health began to fail following her diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease in 2003. She endured daily pain and discomfort as she also battled with degenerative disk disease, osteoporosis, scoliosis, and lymphedema. Her declining mobility required the help of others, and she often expressed gratitude for the hours of service performed on her behalf by the ladies in her neighborhood and church community. Her positivity inspired everyone around her as she continued to perform and share her love of music even within the various care facilities in which she lived. She sealed her faith and trust in a loving God and a determination to endure her trials gracefully when she wrote: “I try to find beauty on the dreariest days. In fact, I try to look for the good in everything. In experiences that seem to be tragic, I try to think what lesson I can learn from it or what good I can get from it.” Rehon has replaced tragedy with beauty and found “the good.” She is finally free to sing, dance, play the piano, and organize endless programs filled with heavenly music and angelic choirs. Her beautiful journey is just beginning!
Rehon is survived by her husband, Steve; children, Jonathan, Matthew (Fanglei), and Lisan; brother, Max (Diana); stepchildren, Scott (Melinda), Troy (Kim), Annmarie Powell (Robert); 8 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, JoClair Maskey; and brother-in-law, Joe Henry Maskey.
The family would like to express gratitude to the nurses and staff at Meadow Peak Rehabilitation and at Valeo Home Health and Hospice for their tender and loving care during the last months of Rehon’s life. She especially loved and appreciated her music therapist, Camille Savage.
