Ron was born on March 24, 1943, in Logan, Utah, to Delma Ione Barney and James Victor Davis, Jr. After his father returned from WWII, the family moved to Cedar City, Utah. His father taught auto mechanics at Southern Utah State College (SUSC) and instilled a deep mechanical understanding in Ron and his brothers. As a result, Ron grew up with a great sense of duty and a lifelong passion for auto mechanics, camping, building, and repairing anything he could get his hands on. During his youth and early married years, he spent summers working for the Utah Parks Company as an auto mechanic at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon in Arizona.
Ron served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the North Scottish Mission. A proud veteran, Ron honorably served his country as an aircraft carrier mechanic in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Constellation. His dedication to his country was a defining piece of his character, a value he carried with him throughout his life.
Ron went on to earn an Associate of Science degree in Industrial Education from the College of Southern Utah (later becoming SUSC). Following his military service, he completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Arts at Southern Utah State College (now SUU). It was during his college years that he met Marlene. They were married and sealed in the St. George Temple on August 4, 1967.
After graduating, they moved to Granger, Utah, where Ron briefly taught auto mechanics at Granger High School. He went on to build a fulfilling career as a Master Auto Mechanic at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. Later, he joined the United States Postal Service, where he worked until his retirement. He was immensely respected by colleagues and patrons alike for his skills, work ethic, and absolute integrity.
Above all, Ron was a devoted family man. He shared a beautiful marriage of 59 years and two months with his beloved wife, Marlene. Together, they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and resilience. He was a steady, guiding force for his children and grandchildren, always offering quiet strength and support.
Some of his favorite family memories included trips to California to see the Redwoods, Disneyland, and SeaWorld; traveling along the Oregon Coast; and camping at Crater Lake, Smith and Morehouse, Canyonlands, Zion, Yellowstone, and Bryce Canyon. He also cherished deer hunting trips in Cedar City with his father and his brothers.
Ron is survived by his wife, Marlene Davis; his children, Shawn Davis (Jemela), Teri Hansen (Steven), Jodi Davis, and Wendy Wild (Damon); his 12 grandchildren, Tyson, Alex, Marissa, Zachery, Tyler, Loclyn, Damien, Emily, Daunte, Kai, Aaliyah, and Bridgette; and his siblings, Carey, Randy, and Lindy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vic and Ione Davis, and his youngest daughter, Cindy Davis.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Arosa Health Care and Serenity Hospice for their compassionate care and support during his final months.
