

She was born on July 10, 1947, in McCammon, Idaho to parents George Karl and Lillian Williams Goodenough. Verda graduated from McCammon High School and went on to Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho.
On February 12, 1969, she married Michael Allen Kiel in McCammon, Idaho. They were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Verda used her talents to serve her family, friends and the church community. She served as music director in the primary, as a primary teacher, home making specialist, and catered missionary zone conferences and girls camp for years. Verda sang with her ward choir and loved to participate in church roadshows and plays. She serviced multiple times as a stake missionary, temple ordinance worker and a full-time missionary in the church history mission with her husband. She had a strong testimony of gospel truths, Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ. She shared her testimony with anyone who would listen.
Verda was gifted in arts and crafts. rather than a She Shed, Verda had a craft closet which was actually a spare bedroom. She spent many years with glue guns and tacky glue. She tried her hand at business attempting a wallpaper business and dreamed of running a bed and breakfast. Verda had the gift of gab and could strike up a conversation or instant friendship with almost anyone she met. She loved to travel and loved to vacation in Hawaii. She was gifted with numbers and excelled at anything mathematical.
She is survived by her daughter Michel Lee Kiel Applegate, her brother Larry Goodenough. And her 8 grandchildren; Gareth Applegate, Harrison Kiel, Madison Kiel, Samuel Applegate, Jamison Kiel, McKinleigh Kiel, Mason Kiel and Elizabeth Applegate. Also, her 3 Great-Grandchildren; Elaine Applegate, Luke Applegate, Tieghe Kiel and her 4th on the way.
Verda is preceded in death by her parents George Karl and Lillian Goodenough, her brothers Dennis Goodenough and Gerald Goodenough, husband Michael Allen Kiel and her son William Brandon Kiel.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2025, from 7:00-9:00 PM. A morning viewing will be held on Monday, June 23, 2025, at 10:00 AM, and a service at 11:00 AM. A luncheon will follow in honor of Verda at Welby 3rd Ward building (8385 South 4800 West – West Jordan, Utah). Interment will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park – South Valley on Monday, June 23 at 2:30 PM in the Autumn Ash section (13001 South 3600 West – Riverton, Utah).
