Vickie had a lifelong love for the outdoors and found joy in the mountains—hiking, climbing, canyoneering, and participating in avalanche rescue work. She was no stranger to adventure, once remarking that it was hard to imagine experiences more exciting than helicopter rescues and the wild beauty of nature she loved so much.
Her life was also defined by service. Vickie volunteered in many capacities, including with local hospitals, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team, and as a CASA advocate in California, where she supported vulnerable children with patience and compassion. She also gave her time teaching aerobics at a women’s prison and serving visitors at Silver Lake, always finding ways to lift and connect with others.
Professionally, she worked with a wide range of individuals and organizations, including time spent assisting notable figures and participating in fundraising efforts. But titles never defined her—what mattered most to Vickie were experiences, people, and making a difference.
In her own reflections near the end of her life, Vickie recognized that among all her adventures, what mattered most was “living in a funny, loving family household.” She cherished time spent with those she loved and found her greatest joy in those relationships.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Shanna Ashby. She is survived by her siblings: Shanna (Mike), Teresa (Darin), Trent (Kristine), and Ryan (Michelle), along with many nieces, nephews, and loved ones who will carry her memory forward.
Vickie faced her final chapter with honesty and grace. Though she acknowledged fear, she also expressed profound gratitude for her family, whose love surrounded and sustained her. She asked not for pity, but for celebration.
