Clifford Steven Martin

He devoted many years to his career at Kroger, where he was known for his strong work ethic, dependability, and ability to work with numbers.

Steve was practical, never one to spend unnecessarily or waste what he had. He believed in making things last and fixing what could be fixed. Quiet and sometimes shy, he never sought attention or recognition. Those who knew him best, however, knew his wonderful sense of humor. Steve loved a good practical joke and catching people off guard with his dry wit. He was genuinely funny and had a way of making people laugh when they least expected it.

Steve had a deep love for family history and genealogy. He enjoyed learning about where his family came from and stories from the past. Some of his favorite times were spent searching through old newspapers, visiting cemeteries and courthouses, and exploring Virginia history.

He truly loved the outdoors. His favorite days were spent listening to music at outdoor concerts, visiting local wineries and breweries, riding ATVs through the West Virginia trails, and driving his boat at Smith Mountain Lake while the kids skied behind.

Steve was a natural tinkerer. He especially enjoyed working on projects with his son, sharing not only the work itself, but the time spent together.

He was also a NASCAR fan, often having races on in the background, sometimes providing the perfect background noise for a well-earned nap.

More than anything, Steve loved his family. He treasured family reunions, holidays, and the simple moments of being together.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Tommy; his brother, Terry; and his son, Kevin.

He is survived by his wife, Gail; his children, Ben and daughter-in-law Lindsey, Dana and son-in-law Bryan, Kristen, and Conrad; his grandchildren, Hayden, Jared, Kayla, Bodie, and Lily; his mother, Anna; his siblings, Billy and Tommie Ann; and many extended family members and friends who loved him dearly.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Afterward, you are welcome to join the family for a graveside service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cave Spring Fire Department in honor of Steve Martin.
