

Darlene Mildred (Hunter) Akers, 76, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2025, in Roanoke, Virginia. Born on April 18, 1949, in Christiansburg, Virginia, she lived a life marked by strength, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family and faith.
Darlene dedicated much of her professional life to Plastics One in Roanoke, where she worked in the manufacturing and assembly of medical accessories. Her work ethic and commitment were evident throughout her career, reflecting the same resilience and independence that defined her personal life.
Darlene spent most of her early Life with her Grandmother Mary Legg Hunter raised as a sister to her Aunt Ellen (Hunter) Linkous, at a young age Darlene was deeply influenced by her religious upbringing. She raised her sons in the church and remained devoted to her faith throughout her life. Her spiritual foundation was a guiding force that shaped her values and inspired those around her.
She is lovingly remembered by her three sons: Rodney William Thompson, Richard Lee Thompson, and Roger Kevin Thompson his wife Gina Marie Thompson. Her legacy continues through her seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life.
Darlene is also survived by a close-knit extended family: two brothers and two sisters, Tommy & wife Susie Justice; (Deborah) & Husband Gary Smith; (Patricia) & Husband Michael Hawkins, Phillip Justice; and many others whose lives she touched with generosity and warmth.
She was preceded in death by Husband Billy Wayne Akers, beloved parents, Mildred Irene (Hunter) Justice and husband Henry Lee Justice.
Known for her loving nature and willingness to help others, Darlene was a pillar of support for family and friends alike. She had a remarkable talent for sewing and crafting—creating clothing and handmade items that reflected both skill and care. Her cooking was cherished by many, often bringing people together around the table in celebration or comfort.

A Graveside Service conducted by Peter T Anderson Pastor of Edgemont Christian Church will be held on August 26, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens 5357 Airport Rd. Visitation prior to the Funeral will begin @ 10:00 AM Blue Ridge Funeral Home. Feel free to bring flowers to place on the casket during visitation.
