Francis Xavier Shushok Sr.

Francis Xavier Shushok Sr., age 95, of Salem, Virginia passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2024. Francis was born in Uniontown, PA. Francis Xavier Shushok, Sr. was born on August 26, 1928, in Uniontown, PA. He was the oldest of 5 siblings, including sisters Joan Shushok and Rita Dils (Ron). Brothers Bob and Bill predeceased him, along with his parents, Francis and Mary Shushok. Frank, as he was known, attended Waynesburg College. He served in the Army during the last period of WWII. Frank was the epitome of an entrepreneur who first worked for Aetna Finance in the 50’s and 60’s while moving around the Northeast until finding his home in Texas. Along with his wife of 58 years, Suzette, he raised a blended family of 8 children, Mary Kirk (Ron), Jay Young (De), Joan Darden (Mike), Fran Riggs, Rob Young (Stacy), Lisa Shushok, Frank Shushok, Jr. (Kelly) and Barbie Shushok (deceased). Frank has 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Frank and Sue lived in McKinney, TX and became known as The Experts Realtors working together as commercial and residential brokers for over 40 years. They both supported Habitat for Humanity and many other charities in McKinney. Frank was a member of Prestonwood Baptist Church for over 25 years where he professed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was honored to serve in Zig Ziglar’s Sunday school class. Frank was an avid sports fan. He especially loved the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers and made sure his family followed suit. He was quite the athlete himself and regularly organized pick-up games with his kids and also coached youth sports. Frank will be remembered for his big personality and silly sense of humor. He loved to celebrate the holidays and always outdid himself at Christmas with his famous snowy villages under the tree. He donned a costume and carried a pillowcase to collect candy with all the other kids on Halloween. Although playful, he was a hard worker and passed his entrepreneurial spirit onto his kids. Frank died peacefully in his sleep on April 6th with his devoted wife Sue, his family, and Good Sam Hospice by his side at Friendship Terrace Assisted Living in Salem, VA., where he and Sue have resided for the past few years to be near their son, Frank and his wife, Kelly. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to Habitat for Humanity in Frank’s honor.
