

James Bentley English, 51, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away leaving behind a legacy of love, mentorship, and leadership that will forever be remembered by those who knew him. Known for his warm spirit, infectious laughter, and unforgettable smile, James had a way of making people feel welcomed, heard, and supported.
James was born August 21, 1974 in Roanoke, VA. He received his education at William Fleming High School and later attended James Madison University. Afterward he built a strong career in the hospitality and culinary industry, working at Frankie Rowland’s, Billy’s, Smokey Bones, and the historic Hotel Roanoke. Through dedication and hard work, he became known for his leadership and commitment to excellence. During his time at Hotel Roanoke, he was honored with the Supervisor of the Year award. He also served as a Corporate Trainer for Smokey Bones, where he mentored and trained many employees, sharing both his culinary knowledge and leadership skills.
James was proud of his accomplishments in Culinary Arts and his involvement in the Boy Scouts, where he developed many of the leadership qualities that guided him throughout his life. He was also a member of the Big Brother mentorship program, where he dedicated his time to guiding and inspiring young people. Outside of his professional life, James loved enjoying life’s experiences. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, playing with his dogs, visiting with family and friends, and exploring new places and restaurants to try different dishes. He was also a devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoyed collecting watches.
James will always be remembered for his exceptional cooking skills, natural leadership, and his willingness to mentor and guide others. He was someone family and friends could rely on for support, advice, and encouragement. His laughter was infectious and his smile was truly contagious, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Audrey & Cecil Bradburn of Roanoke, Virginia; his parents Lemon E. English, and James G. Bentley English of Roanoke, Virginia.
James leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Lucia Constantino of Roanoke, Virginia, and his sons, Pharaoh English McMillan of Woodbridge, Virginia; Malik Morris of Roanoke, Virginia; and Bentley English.
He is also survived by his Aunt Betsy English Young of Roanoke, Virginia, his sisters Mamie English and Diane English of Roanoke, Virginia, and many loving nieces and nephews including Nakshia English of Beckley, West Virginia; Keith Stone; Danica Stone; Aisha Marie Farmer; Roshawn Jones (“Choc-o-lot”); Kenya English (“Lemon Drop”); of Roanoke, Virginia Kaiden English of Beckley, West Virginia; Shaelyn English of Beckley, West Virginia; and Kiara English of Beckley, West Virginia, along with many other great nieces and nephews.
James will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His kindness, wisdom, mentorship, and love for family and friends will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Services for James will be at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5731 Airport Road NW Roanoke, Virginia, on Monday March 16, 2026. Visitation will be from 12p-2pm, funeral service at 2pm, and burial immediately following at 3pm at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, located directly next to Blue Ridge Funeral Home.
