Thursday, September 17, 2026. She was born on April 28, 1935 in Roanoke, Virginia to parents James Shelbert Furrow and Geraldine Emaline Martin Furrow. She worked as a seamstress for many years and ended her working career as an assembly techician at ITT and retired in 2000. She was a founding member of New Hope Baptist Church and attended faithfully until she became ill.
In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by sons Eugene Delancy Smith(Smitty) and James Edward Smith(Eddie), brothers Donald Furrow, Randal Furrow; sisters Exie Underwood, Anna Bowman, Jaqueline Welch, Shirley Pandelis, and Barbara James.
Janet is survived by sons Troy Leon Smith(Ramona), Timothy
Lee Smith(Tammy), siblings Linda Garrett, Bonnie Martin, and Billy Furrow, 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and family for a period of visitation on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, from the hours of 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm. The service will be held at 6:30 pm at Blue Ridge Funeral Home in Roanoke, Virginia. Funeral service will be officiated by Reverend Michael Huffman.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice for the wonderful care given to Janet and her family during this trying time.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you give a donation to the Good Samaritan Hospice.
