Roger W Sorensen

A member of the United States Air Force Academy Class of 1968, Roger proudly served his country through a decades-long career in the United States Air Force. After retiring from the Air Force in 1988, he began a second, 22-year career in corporate aviation, continuing his lifelong connection to flying.

His service and aviation careers took him to many places and introduced him to people from around the world, leading to friendships that endured across decades and continents.

Known for his sense of humor and active spirit, Roger enjoyed staying on the move. Tennis was a longtime favorite, and in more recent years, he could often be found on the pickleball court. He enjoyed the competition, the camaraderie, and, undoubtedly, the opportunity for a little good-natured banter along the way.

Roger’s circle of friends stretched far beyond any one community. He remained connected with friends across the country and around the world, a reflection of the many places he lived, served, and made an impression along the way.

Roger and Cinda fulfilled a longtime dream of making their home at Smith Mountain Lake, where he could enjoy another great love: the water. Whether in the sky or on the lake, Roger was happiest with a sense of freedom, movement, and adventure.

Roger will be remembered for his humor, his energy, the friendships he cultivated throughout his life, and the personality he brought to the lives of those around him.

He is survived by his wife, Cinda; his daughter, Heather; his sister, Margaret Moyer (Lee); his niece, Jennifer Nieva (Rick); his nephew, Robert Moyer (Deb); and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

In keeping with Roger’s wishes, no formal service is planned. His family and friends will gather on his birthday October 2, 2026 at the lake house for a Celebration of Life Happy Hour. Roger’s interment with Military Honors will be at the USAF Academy columbarium in Colorado Springs at a date in the future.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Towson University Foundation or the United States Air Force Academy Foundation.
