
Wilson Nathaniel Royster, affectionately known as “Duck” Royster, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2026, at the age of 65. Born on May 13, 1961, Wilson was born and raised in Burlington, North Carolina, where he created a lifetime of memories and lasting relationships.
Wilson was a man whose presence could never be forgotten. He was deeply loved by his family, friends, and community, and his personality left a unique imprint on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He had a genuine love for people and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Wilson was especially known for his care and concern for the elders in his community, often taking the time to stop by and make sure they were doing well and had what they needed.
Wilson found joy in the outdoors, especially fishing and spending time with wildlife. The memories he created during those moments continue to live on in the hearts of those who shared them with him. Whether enjoying the outdoors, spending time with loved ones, or simply sharing a laugh, Wilson had a way of making ordinary moments memorable.
Those who knew Wilson well will remember his incredible sense of humor and his ability to bring comedic relief at exactly the right moment. He proudly considered himself someone who never missed a birthday, making a point to remember and celebrate the special days of those around him. These seemingly simple gestures reflected the kind of person Wilson was; thoughtful, caring, and deeply connected to the people in his life.
Wilson’s life was defined not only by the years he lived, but by the lives he touched. He was extremely well known and well loved, and everyone who knew him carries a different story, memory, or moment that belongs uniquely to them. His laughter, kindness, humor, and willingness to care for others will continue to be remembered and cherished.
Wilson is survived by his wife, Felicia Royster Phoenix, AZ ; his daughter, Brittany Royster Phoenix, AZ ; his siblings, Carolyn Toraine of Greensboro, NC, John Royster of Burlington, NC, Jimmy Louis Royster Toledo, OH, Jerry Royster(his wife Michelle) Burlington, NC , Elizabeth(Nessie) Roberts Huntsville, AL, and Vanessa Quinn Charlotte, NC; along with a host of nieces, nephews, lifelong friends, and loved ones who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wilson Royster; his mother, Ophelia Royster; and his brother, Larry Thaxton.
Though Wilson is no longer with us in person, the memories he created, the laughter he shared, and the lives he touched will remain. His story will continue through the people who loved him, the memories they hold, and the countless moments that will bring a smile when they think of “Duck.”
