Doris Little Wilson died Saturday, April 13, 2013. She was 87 years old. Born March 8, 1926 in Robersonville, N.C., Doris was the daughter of the late Ethel Bailey and Ichabod Mayo Little. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Charles Leon Wilson, Jr. and their daughter, Ann Roberson Wilson.
Doris grew up in Robersonville and graduated from Salem College in 1946. She lived and worked in Raleigh for several years after graduation before marrying Charles in 1953 and returning to Robersonville to live and raise their family.
A dedicated friend to all, Doris was the epitome of grace, always more concerned with the needs and wants of those around her than she was with her own. A loving mother, she cherished her children and her grandchildren and never forgot to let them know that she loved them “mostest and bestest”. Never seeking attention for herself, she quietly led by example, with a ready smile, a strong laugh, a quick wit, a supporting word and gracious hospitality to all. Her love of family, home, history and its’ preservation led her to a ‘career’ in genealogy, culminating in the establishment of the Martin County History Room at Martin County Community College where she served as Curator, making available to all an enormous cache of documents, deeds, and maps of the area. Also a long-time member of the Martin County Historical Society, Doris served on its’ Board of Directors for many years.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at the First Christian Church in Robersonville. Burial will follow at the Robersonville Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Biggs Funeral Home Robersonville Monday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Doris is survived by her children, Charles Leon Wilson III and his wife Emma Jean of Wilson, NC; Matthew Mayo Wilson and his wife Fran of Raleigh, NC; and Dee Wilson Loop and her husband David of Jacksonville, Fl. She is also survived by her brother, Mayo Little, Jr. and his wife Betty of Salisbury, N. C., brother-in-law Claude Wilson and his wife Janice of Robersonville, and brother-in-law Ben Wilson and his wife Elva of Winterville, N.C. and 8 wonderful, loving grandchildren; Charles Leon Wilson IV and his wife Anna Marshall of Raleigh, NC ; Louis Vanderford Wilson of Washington, NC; Robert Bailey Wilson of Wilson, NC ; Thomas Mayo Wilson and Bailey Louise Wilson of Raleigh, NC; and Ann Leighton Loop, Elizabeth Mayo Loop and Mariah Wilson Loop of Jacksonville, Fl. as well as many nieces and nephews.
