George Pete Johnson

George W. “Pete” Johnson, Sr., 78, died Sunday, February 1, 2015. The funeral service will be held Thursday, February 3, 2015 at 2:00 PM at First Christian Church with Dr. David Brown officiating; burial will follow at Martin Memorial Gardens with military honors.

Mr. Johnson was born on November 17, 1936 in Robersonville, Martin County, NC. He was the son of the late Louis and Bruce Elmer Everett Johnson. On September 1, 1995 he retired from R. J. Reynolds Company where he worked as a tobacconist for 36 years. Pete was a member of the First Christian Church for 65 years where he served as a deacon. He was a veteran of the United States Army.

On February 12, 1961 he married Margaret Ann Whitehurst. Survivors in addition to his wife are a son George Wesley Johnson, Jr. and Melissa Clark Johnson of Mt. Pleasant, SC, grandchildren Mackenzie Dare, Brandon Wesley, and Evan Clark and a daughter Tammy Johnson Kiger and Scott Anthony Kiger of Toano, VA, grandchildren Dana Elizabeth and Ally Scott.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 1-2:00 PM before the service at the church and other times at the residence.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, 126 South Main Street, Robersonville, NC 27871 or the Robersonville Fire and Rescue Squad.
