Gertie Oakley Matthews

Gertie Oakley Matthews, 82, died Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Oak Haven Assisted Living in Greenville. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 3:30 PM at Robersonville First Baptist Church with Dr. James O Hagwood and Rev Randell Woolard officiating’ burial will follow at Robersonville Cemetery.

Gertie was born in Martin County on May 19, 1934 daughter of the late Aubrey and Euzelia Forbes Oakley. She was the owner of Mattco Florist in Robersonville for more than 40 years.

On February 6, 1955 she married Wilbur Ray Matthews who preceded her in death on April 25, 2005.

Surviving are a son Mike Matthews and wife Brenda of Greenville, sister Betty Jean Peele and husband Donnie of Richmond VA, grandchildren Michael Bedsole and wife Amy of Greensboro, Katye Wicker and husband Rusty of Huntersville, three great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:30-3:30 PM in the parlor at First Baptist Church
