

Joyce Whitfield Smith, 77, died Tuesday, September 16, 2014. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM at the First Christian Church with Dr David Brown officiating; burial will follow at Robersonville Cemetery.
The daughter of Lester Latham and Carrie Louise Whitfield, Joyce was born in Mt. 0live on January 11, 1937, twin to Janyce Thomas of Williamston. She married Edgar Ferrell Smith on August 14, 1960 who preceded her in death in 1969.
Joyce attended Woman's College of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro 1955-56. She received a one-year business certificate, worked in Raleigh as secretary from 1956-57, attended East Carolina College from 1957-60,
receiving a BS degree in Home Economics and in 1978 received a Master of Science degree. She was the owner of Jo-Jan interiors in Robersonville. Joyce was last employed as an Education Assessment Coordinator with Beaufort County Schools before her retirement. She was the First Regent of the Grimes-Mayo Charter Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is survived by her three children Grady Ferrell Smith of Greenville, Raine Smith Williford of Raleigh, and Virginia Smith Blake of Angier, 6 grandchildren Jessica Longshore, Grady Smith Jr., Morgan Smith, Everett Blake IV, Alexandra Blake, and Evan Elizabeth Blake, and 1 great grandchild Mills Longshore.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00-8:00 PM at Biggs Funeral Home in Robersonville and other times at the residence 307 S Main St Robersonville.
