

Melvin Hyman Griffin, 81, passed away at his home on Wednesday, March 21,2012. Melvin was born on January 27, 1931 in Martin County, son of the late Thomas Sylvester Griffin and Charlotte McKeel Griffin.
After graduating from Williamston High School in 1948, Melvin served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Upon his return home from military service, he met and married Geneva Poe Griffin. Together, they had three sons and made their home near Everetts. Melvin loved baseball and shared his passion for the sport with his three sons. Along with his wife, he owned and operated Griffin's Shoe Store in Robersonville for twenty-seven years, retiring in 1999.
Melvin is survived by Genny, his wife of fifty-seven years, son, Melvin Gene Griffin and wife, Sandy, son, Ricky Lawrence Griffin and wife, Regina, son, Thomas Lee Griffin and wife, Angie, grandchildren Becky, Melissa, Courtney, Brandon, Joshua, Jessica, Ian and Allie, and four great grandchildren. Also surviving Melvin is his brother, Charles Griffin and wife, Janie, his sister-in-law, Faye Rogerson Griffin, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Melvin will be remembered by the family as a kind, gentle and loving husband, father and proud "Papa".
Visitation will be held at Biggs Funeral Home in Robersonville at 6pm - 8pm on Thursday. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday at Biggs Funeral Home, Robersonville.
