Walter Benjamin Oakley

Walter Benjamin Oakley, 77, died Wednesday November 16, 2016 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. Funeral service was held Saturday at 3:00 PM at Hamilton Baptist Church; burial followed at Hamilton Cemetery.

Family received friends from 2:00 PM until funeral time at the church.

He was the son of the late Walter Maynard and Elsie Ray Ayers Oakley. Walter worked in construction as an Iron Rigger for 30 years. He loved racing and football, basketball, and baseball. He was a member of the Hamilton Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Jennie Lou and Edith James and a brother Keith Oakley.

Survivors are his wife Ella Oakley, daughter Amy Lawrence and husband James of Benson, son Benjamin Carl Oakley and wife Christy of Stokes, grandchildren Dylan and Kori Lawrence, brothers Mike Oakley and Richard Oakley and sisters Barbara Bullock, Faye Russell, Becky Griffin, and Judy Oakley..
