He was born in Dallas, TX on February 25, 1946. Derald graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas in 1964. He went on to trade school where he graduated at the top of his class as a Class A Master Machinist.
Derald was married to the love of his life and soul mate, Pat Harvey for 53 years. Together they raised children, grandchildren and welcomed great-grandchildren. Together they made memories and family was most important to them both as they helped each other help their parents in their time of need and would always help anyone that needed it. They built a legacy together that will always be cherished.
Derald was well-known in the Oil & Gas Industry as a Master Machinist and Shop Foreman. He was an old school manual machinist and could figure out the most challenging issues that engineers would bring to him. Machining was his passion and he hated the day that he couldn’t do it any longer. Throughout his career he worked for Allen & Cameron, Ohmstede, Turbo, H&S Constructors, Lonestar, Total, Stormy, and most recently at Accurate Valve Service. He semi-retired three times and would always come out of retirement because he loved his career so much. He was a mentor and teacher to many as he passed on his knowledge to numerous young machinists in the area, especially his son, James Eugene Harvey II.
He is survived by his loving wife that didn’t leave his side, Pat Harvey, his children Derald “Shane” (Teresa) Harvey, Sheryl Scott, Jennifer Pearl (Charlie) Oleniczak, James Eugene (Krystal) Harvey II, Jamy Eugenia Harvey, Jericha Paulynn (Moses) Cortez, his grandchildren, Chandler (Jordan) Dinardo, Jenna (Wes) Ruebman, Jordan Harvey, Mica Harvey, Heather Scott Pahua, Rebecca Pallman, Jaiden Larivey, Joli Larivey, Jaley Larivey, Ezra Oleniczak, Dixie Harvey, Emma Harvey, Travis Ramon, Allen Ramon, Grayson Ramon, Drake Ramon, London Ramon, Athena Cortez, Moses “Ryu” Cortez, Kitana Cortez, Achilles Cortez, his great-grandchildren, Erick Pahua, Harper Layne Ruebman, and expecting Penny Jane Dinardo. He is also survived by his sister, Donna Graham of Lewisville, Texas. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews that will also miss him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James Eugene and Mildred Maxine Harvey, his brother, James “Sonny” Maxine Harvey, and his granddaughter, Cynthia Christine Scott.
Pallbearers will be Derald “Shane” Harvey, James Eugene Harvey II, Charlie Oleniczak, Moses Cortez, Jordan Harvey, Manuel Hernandez Jr.,Travis Ramon, Allen Ramon, Moses “Ryu” Cortez,& Grayson Ramon.
Master Drake Ramon will be escorting his Pawpaw’s honey Pat Harvey at the service during this difficult time.
Derald will be greatly and deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His children were blessed to call him Dad. He was a great man and taught us so much.
Family, Friends, and others whose lives were touched by Derald are invited to Celebrate his life at Church of Hope at 13024 Leopard St. Corpus Christi, TX on November 17, 2023. The church will be open for viewing from 10am to 12pm with Xavier Mercado ushering, and Pastor Rod Young will officiate the funeral service at 12pm and burial following at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 8200 Old Brownsville Rd., Corpus Christi, TX.
