Richard Carl Gillespie

He was totally into all sports, especially RISD baseball, football, & basketball. Because of his love for Robstown sports and his years of keeping statistics and scores, the high school gymnasium was named for him. Through the years, he was recognized for many of his accomplishments. Because of his Dad, he was also an SMU Mustang football fan, & a Chicago Cubs baseball fan, even going to see the Cubs play in Chicago!

Survivors include his sister, Zandy (Tom) Banefield, uncle Vic Gillespie, niece Christie (James) Batey, great-niece Delite Batey, and many cousins.

Pallbearers are Gary Capeheart, Ty Romike, Chuck Barber, Steve Tenpenny, & Kippy Edge. Honorary pallbearers are Donnie Jackson & Bill Westfall.

Many thanks to Becky Perez and Becky Pelaez, who lovingly cared for him the last several months.

Visitation will be held at Grace United Methodist Church, 14521 Northwest Blvd, Corpus Christi, TX 78410, US, on July 20, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life at the same location from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.

A Committal Service will take place at Funeraria del Angel-Memorial Park, 4607 FM 1889, Robstown, TX 78380, US, on July 20, 2026, from 2:30 pm to 3:00 pm.
