Bernice Hill

Funeral services will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Second Baptist Church, 919 6th Ave, Rock Island, where the family will greet visitors from 12:00 noon until the time of services. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Moline. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island, is assisting the family.

Bernice was born on February 22, 1927 in Mount Holly, Arkansas, the daughter of Lenard and Evelyn (Jones) Johnson. She married Mamon Hill on January 24, 1945, in Camden, Arkansas.

Bernice worked as a housekeeper for local doctors in their homes and offices for 25 years. She was a devoted member of Second Baptist Church in Rock Island, where she served as a trustee, sang in the choir, cooked in the kitchen, and did just about anything else you can imagine for the church. She also held membership in the Active Club at the King Center in Rock Island.

Survivors include her husband, Mamon, Rock Island; children, Mary Culver-Jackson, Robert L. Hill, and Steven D. Hill, all of Rock Island; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, and children, Herschel, Maggie, Michael, and Carl Hill.
