Betty Lou Dean

In accordance with her wishes, all services will be private. Interment will take place at Rock Island National Cemetery on Arsenal Island. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island, is assisting the family.

Betty was born on August 5, 1933 in Taylor Ridge, IL, the daughter of Dale and Irma (Nitz) McKillip. She married Kenneth H. Dean on December 22, 1956 in Andalusia, IL. For 40 years, Betty worked as a clerk, retiring in 1995 from the former All Stop in Viola, IL.

Betty was a member of Viola United Presbyterian Church for 35 years. She enjoyed traveling, fishing, quilting, and cooking. She played bingo, taught her kids and grandkids how to cook, and enjoyed going to rodeos and blue grass music festivals. Her favorite vacation places always had mountains, and she loved the time spent at Yellowstone National Park.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Kenneth, Rock Island; daughters and sons-in-law, Bobbi and Craig Park, Moline, and Terry and Cliff Blundy, East Moline; sister and brother-in-law, Dixie and Steve Hunt, Branson, MO; 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, the stepfather who raised her, Wilson Terry, daughters, Melinda Youmans and Tammy Dean, two brothers and one sister.
