

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Cremation will follow. Memorials may be made to the family.
Betty was born on July 18, 1948 in Pearisburg, VA, the daughter of Charlie Oren and Elsie Virginia (Stephens) Riddle. She married Robert Kemp, Sr., and her family grew to include five children, Robert Jr., Mary, Sara, Angleque, and Leticia.
Betty worked as a teacher’s aide at the former Lincoln Elementary in Rock Island where she made many friends. She also worked for Export Packaging, Milan, Renfro Corp, Pulaski, VA and Findley Industries, Dublin, VA. She had many hobbies including Bingo, word puzzles, shopping, and yard sales.
Betty was always full of humor and stories. She could make you laugh on the darkest of days. She could fill your heart with love, and your belly with food. She is truly a bright light that will forever shine deep in our hearts.
Survivors include her children, Robert Kemp, Jr., Roanoke, VA, Mary Kemp, Kankakee, IL, Sara Kemp, Milan, Angleque (Donald) Brimberg, Moline, and Leticia (Justin) Collins, Narrows, VA; siblings, Juanita Wright, Linda Wall, and Benny Riddle, all in VA; 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Kemp was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Charles “Eddie” and Robert “Jake” Riddle and Viola “Tiny” Wall, and a grandson, Steven Wyers.
