

Funeral services for Mrs. Knox will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.
Betty Jean was born on May 16, 1923 in Geneseo, IL, the daughter of Carl and Ruth (Andrews) Holstrom. She graduated Geneseo High School in 1941, where she was active in several clubs, as well as band and orchestra. During World War II she was a member of the United States Cadet Corps. She married Charles B. Knox, Jr., on April 8, 1945 in Rock Island.
Betty graduated from the former St. Anthony’s Hospital School of Nursing, and practiced nursing at the hospital and later Franciscan Hospital. She also worked as a visiting nurse for the former J.I. Case Company in Rock Island.
Betty’s love of music that began during her school years was a lifelong affair. She was an accomplished French horn player, sang in choir and Glee club, and was also talented as a pianist and organist, playing the piano for her childhood church Sunday School, First Lutheran in Geneseo. She privately taught piano and organ for 17 years.
Betty had most recently been a member of South Park Presbyterian Church, Rock Island. She also was a member of the Trinity, Franciscan, and St. Anthony’s alumnae. Mrs. Knox enjoyed her instruments, knitting, and reading.
Survivors (and spouses) include her husband, Charles, Rock Island; son, Charles (Barbara) Knox, III, Silvis; granddaughter, Jennifer (Mark) Rummell, Houston, TX; grandson, Michael C. Knox, Raleigh, NC; step granddaughter, Candace Woods, Coal Valley, IL; great grandchildren, Adrian & Hunter; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Her parents, sister, Caroline Mordhorst, and brother, Forrest Holstrom, preceded Mrs. Knox in death.
