Helen Elizabeth Hoover

Funeral services will begin at noon on Thursday, Aug. 14, at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to the Scott County Humane Society or to the Sisters of Humility, Davenport.

Helen was born on March 30, 1929, in Milan, the daughter of Elmer S. and Fleeta E. (Vice) Lovett. She married James L. Hoover on Sept. 29, 1945, in Rock Island. He preceded her in death in 1975.

Helen was a homemaker and a spiritual person who lived a modest and conservative life spent devoted to her family. She enjoyed gardening and working in her yard, and in earlier years played Hawaiian electric guitar.

Survivors (and spouses) include her son, James L. (Joan) Hoover Jr., Des Moines; daughter, Janice (Robert) Egger, LeClaire; grandchildren, Kimberly Clarkson, Karen Murphy, Robert M. Egger Jr., Donovan, Christopher and Edward Valle, and Gina Marie Valle Fox; and 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, James, Mrs. Hoover was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Donna E. Valle; and brothers, Robert, Don, Mearle and Ralph Lovett.
